Hi from my parents house in Minneapolis! I flew in late last night with a friend from CO and our friend from San Fran met us at the airport. We took an uber to my parents house. This morning, a few of us a going on a long run 10-12 miles and then going to a cabin weekend in Central Wisconsin. It should be a really fun weekend, I’m excited to enjoy the day off of work and relax on the lake. I’m not excited for mosquitoes though and hoping to avoid some bug bites!
A couple weeks ago, I headed up to Steamboat for a summer weekend. It was hot air balloon festival in Steamboat, and we went to the balloon launch/rodeo. It was so awesome to see the sunrise and see the balloons go up in the air.
After getting up super early, we took a nap (at 9am haha) and then got up to float the Yampa River. Most of downtown Steamboat is near the Yampa. We took the tubes we brought, blew them up (or asked some people at the float spot to use their air pumps and help us– hahah), grabbed our cooler and floated the river. It was a lot of fun, but there were some large rocks in the river. The river was a lot lower than when I floated last year.
After that, we headed back to the condo to lounge (nap), get ready, and we went to dinner. We went to Salt and Lime which is quickly becoming one of my favorite Steamboat restaurants. It was even more fun in the summer than the winter, there is an awesome rooftop patio, which was great for watching the sunset. Also, get a pitcher of their margaritas, OMG so tasty.
Such amazing GUAC!
Veggie and fish tacos for me! So good!
Black beans side
Deep fried cauliflower appetizer.
We also went to Sunpie’s bar for some drinks, its a nice dive bar on the Yampa river. In the summers its great because there is a lot of outdoor seating, I would highly recommend it. When we were there, there was a Rugby Tournament in town, and they were having a massive toga party. Let me tell you, Toga parties are pretty great people watching. We had fun.
We got up and went to breakfast at Smell that Bread. We got pastries which were delicious, and then we went to hike Fish Creek Falls. There is a $5 fee to park there, but the area is really well maintained. We did a bit of a workout hike, we went uphill at a pretty fast speed, and then we jogged down where we could. It was round trip 4 miles, so a great option for the day.
After the hike, we stopped at Freshies (for the 2nd time that weekend) for lunch.
Have you ever been to Steamboat before?
